Living in “The Ermitage at the Beach” in Limassol / Cyprus

by Christoph Ostermann | 27.September 2009

View from my balcony to the Sea in the Ermitage on the Beach I just moved into my new appartment. And i just love it. Finally i found a place in Cyprus that you can really call “Home”. My new Flat is in “The Ermitage at the Beach” - thats a luxury appartment house in the Tourist Area of Limassol. Only 50m from the Beach, with all the Bars, Night Clubs, Restaurants etc. about 3 minutes walk away - but at the same time very QUIET. Because it is in a side street.

I add some pictures here so that you can get an idea about the excellent quality of the finishing. All the furniture in the appartments is brand new. (They are all equipped similar). Even towels, cups, cooking equipment: All is already there when you move in the Ermitage on the Beach.

My living room in the Ermitage on the Beach The House has 1-Bedroom and 2-Bedroom Flats. Some of them have their own private pool. But if you ask me: The community pool is already good enough. The House also offers a small Gym, a nice garden with green grass (something that you learn to appreciate in dry Cyprus) and - tata!! - a private Beach!

Telefon, Broadband Internet and a 15% Discount at the Spa in next Doors “Miramare” Hotel is also part of the Deal. The rent though, is not cheap. You have to be able to afford it if you want to live here.

My bedroom in The Ermitage on the BeachThe stuff in “The Ermitage on the Beach” is friendly and very professional. Deborah Caulfeild-Browne is in charge of rent and sales of appartments. Anna is taking care of Maintenance. The rest of the stuff i still have to meet. I just know there is also some guy in charge of the phone and internet connections.

Honestly i think that this might be one of the best places where i have lived. And i could imagine that i will stay here for a long time. Maybe move once in the next 6-months: Then to a bigger appartment here, in the “Ermitage on the Beach”.

Two Nights in Beirut, an Angel, the SkyBar and insane Taxis

by Christoph Ostermann | 13.September 2009

Two short Days in Beirut - what can i say? Beirut ist a wonderful City. Full of life, very green, amazing views from the mountains.

And with SkyBar one of the best Bars in the World. Thousands of people, different stages and a really “chilled” atmosphere - together with beautiful libanese people and an amazing view over Beirut.

That Stefan and i even made it into the SkyBar is only thanks to our personal Angel: Malak, thank you!! SkyBar has a strict “FaceControl” - and two guys are usually not allowed to enter the Place. But thanks to Malak and her friend we got “in” anyway.

If you ever visit Beirut: Make sure you are properly dressed and try to get into “SkyBar”, “White” or “Beiroof”. You can also spent a Day and visit Haptoorland - Beiruts very own Themepark!! More about this Fun Place you can read soon on my friends Stefan website www.thethemeparkguy.com

You can get a “thrill” everywhere in Beirut - just take a Taxi-Ride! After our Visit to Haptoorland (which was closed at the time - but Stefan got the Management to open the Park just for him a day later) - we took a taxi home and wanted to make a stopover at Pizza Hut. Signs for Pizza Hut you find all over Beirut. But our roughly 200 year old Taxi Driver seemed not to notice - for about 1 hour he drove us all over the place, sometimes with about 35km/h on the highway - making U-Turns in full Traffic - until we finally gave up and walked…

One Tipp: Libanese Taxi Drivers expect you to haggle! Pay them maxium half of what they ask. A ride from the Airport to the Center of Beirut will usually be offered for 40 Dollar - but they will say “Yes” if you offer them 20 Dollar. Always: Negotiate the price before you enter the taxi, of course…

auswandern.de - my new project

by Christoph Ostermann | 29.November 2008

drinking champaign in Hyde Park (summer 2008) About a month ago i bought www.auswandern.de (”to emigrate”) for a not so low 5-digit sum. I am very exited about this new project. I plan to create a Premium Community for german “Expatriates” at auswandern.de.

As you might know i am a journalist by occupation. I really enjoy this opportunity to focus again on my biggest strength: good research and information that you can rely on. If you are about to move abroad you should not rely on “hearsay” - but on information from reliable sources. I.e.: Sources that you know and can check for yourself.

I have already lots of ideas for the project, but you are more then welcome to share your thoughts with me: At www.auswandern.de i run a little poll at the moment. I want to give you exactly those information that you are looking for.

Care to join in?

UK lowers Value Added Tax?

by Christoph Ostermann | 23.November 2008

Good news on  BBC this morning: The UK Goverment is thinking about lowering Value Added Tax (VAT) to 15%. Thats 2,5% less then at the moment. Even better: It might be that the tax cut comes already before Christmas. But: Prime Minister Gordon Brown warns also that every tax cut now will have to be paid for in the future, says the Telly.
